Microstructures created and driven by light

This project is part of the EU-FP6 cooperation ATOM-3D

This is a small spiral spring which we intend to use in micromechanical structures. We plan to use it as a device which returns for instance a radiation pressure-driven cog-wheel to its original position after the driving light is turned off.



Although we still have to experiment to find a way to control the spring constant, it already shows its main functionality. Click here to view movie.
